The Smile and Courtney Barnett added to the TW Classic 2022 line up!

The line-up is now complete for TW Classic 2022, which will take place on Saturday, 25th June in the Festivalpark in Werchter. Today, THE SMILE and COURTNEY BARNETT were added to the line-up. NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS, PLACEBO, SLEAFORD MODS and WHISPERING SONS were previously announced for the one-day festival.

THE SMILE is a product of Covid-19. This British supergroup was formed in April 2020 when Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood of Radiohead were looking for something to keep them occupied during lockdown. That shouldn’t come as a surprise as, in addition to their day jobs, the two musicians have countless side projects on the go. Greenwood is in demand as a composer of soundtracks, Yorke has made a handful of solo records and is in the band Atoms For Peace. The third member of THE SMILE is Tom Skinner, a prominent player in the extremely vibrant London jazz scene. He is best known as one of the drummers in Sons Of Kemet. Entirely in keeping with the spirit of the age, THE SMILE’s first public appearance was a surprise show during a 2021 livestream from Glastonbury, the UK equivalent of Rock Werchter. Their first singles, “You Will Never Work In Television Again” and “The Smoke”, will leave you wanting more.

COURTNEY BARNETT, from Melbourne, makes music that takes us back to the halcyon days of Pavement and Sonic Youth. Her songs are poetic, funny sketches of the chaos that surrounds us daily. She was discovered in 2013 at the CMJ Music Marathon, an important New York talent festival. Barnett’s sparkling songs and blazing live performance were wildly praised. She followed this up with her debut album, “Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit” (2015). This record made the top ten in end-of-year lists all over the world, and led to collaborations with Kurt Vile and with Courtney’s heroine, Kim Deal, of Pixies and The Breeders fame. Conversely, she can count Jack White and Barack Obama as great fans. Her latest release, “Things Take Time, Take Time” (2021), confirms that she is among those who will be setting standards for the years ahead.
