NOS Primavera Sound Porto is also looking towards next year, the year in which we will make up for lost time. A week after unveiling the lineup for Primavera Sound Barcelona – Sant Adrià 2022, the Portuguese edition of the festival announces the lineup with which it will celebrate its 9th anniversary from 9th to 11th June, 2022, led by TAME IMPALA and their multicoloured psychedelia, Damon Albarn’s GORILLAZ, NICK CAVE AND THE BAD SEEDS for a new date with eternity, the icon BECK, the resurrected PAVEMENT, LITTLE SIMZ as the new benchmark for British rap, the ever-restless KIM GORDON and KING KRULE howling from the darkness. With some names still to be announced over the next few weeks to complete the line-up, there are 61 artists with the 100% Primavera Sound hallmark who will accompany us on the long-awaited return to Parque da Cidade.
Beyond the already obvious celebration that is meeting once again with all the rituals that surround a festival, NOS Primavera Sound Porto will be a celebration of contemporary music in all its array with a daring, eclectic and transversal line-up that speaks different languages and sounds in multiple ways. From the activist soul of JAMILA WOODS to the inexhaustible post-hardcore of JAWBOX, from the soothing flamenco of MARÍA JOSÉ LLERGO to EARL SWEATSHIRT’S mutant hip hop, from the nomadic funk by KHRUANGBIN to the global house of Black Coffee, the return to Porto will serve not only to make up for lost time, but also to live in the present and to begin to envisage the future.
Starting with SHELLAC, whose presence in a Primavera Sound lineup is non-negotiable anywhere in the world, the next edition of NOS Primavera Sound Porto will be an intergenerational journey to understand the DNA of the festival. The path here has been marked by the philosophy of projects such as the tireless DINOSAUR JR., the happily reunited SLOWDIVE and OM by Al Cisneros from Sleep, who will pass through Porto to claim that there are still brilliant chapters to write in their history. They will be supported by future classics such as the troubadour HELADO NEGRO, the sunny riffs of BEACH BUNNY and ROLLING BLACKOUTS COASTAL FEVER, DIIV with their juggling between noise and melody, the intensity of JEHNNY BETH, the chameleonic MURA MASA, the dream-pop of PENELOPE ISLES and the anthems to sing along to with your fist in the air by PILE.
Although everything seems new after two years without a festival, there are things that don’t change because there is no reason for them to change: as in previous years, Portuguese will also be spoken on the festival stages in 2022 with the visit from the other side of the Atlantic of ARNALDO ANTUNES, living history of Brazilian music, by representatives of the Portuguese scene including PEDRO MAFAMA and his new folklore, the agitators THROES + THE SHINE, MONTANHAS AZUIS and his floating songbook, HOLY NOTHING and their contagious groove, the magnetic RITA VIAN and DAVID BRUNO and his bomb-proof romanticism. Local talent that is completed by heroes of the Portuguese clubbing scene such as NÍDIA, DJ FIRMEZA, MVRIA and ARROGANCE ARROGANCE: plenty of reasons to continue believing in music made with a Portuguese accent.
