With an already outstanding line-up of music artists including the likes of JUSTIN BIEBER, DUA LIPA, ANNE-MARIA, CALVIN HARRIS, SAM FENDER and more, Sziget is proud to announce a rich programme of wider cultural events that will span across the 6 days of the festival covering everything from theatre, burlesque, comedy, contemporary dance, jazz, folk and world music. The jam-packed schedule will have Szitizens entertained all day and night.
Europe Stage returns in 2022 hosting the best international emerging bands. Among the most anticipated acts on stage, you can find the new British sensation, the NOVA TWINS, who mix pop, rock and rap, the Canadian duo CLEOPATRICK, the Portuguese SURMA playing their magical music, or the German SHELTER BOY, who is becoming increasingly popular in their home country. Lenny, who is a big hit in the Czech Republic, the Belgian duo YELLOWSTRAPS will conjure a very special mix of jazz, soul and hip-hop, and SYML, who has been on the radar of the organisers for several years now. For those who like more obscure rock music, Belgian band STAKE, German trio PABST and French group THE PSYCHOCTIC MONKS are a must-see.
Sziget’s newest addition gathers the most exciting faces of hip-hip from all around the world. During the day breakdance battles, and later in the evening the best rappers will entertain the crowd. The performers include ECHO from Israel, who is featured in several groups, as well as Asa Masa from Finland and ULFUR ULFUR from Iceland. One of the most colourful act is the Korean group YNC, who will join us in almost full force, with GFU, Sikboy, GSon, JD Vanic. South Africa’s YUGEN BLAKROK, Italy’s VILLABANKS, Germany’s AUDIO88 & YASSIN, but also Spain’s TRIBADE with their critical lyrics, Irish rappers KNEECAP will bring bars on their own languages. SLOW VILLAGE, MULATÓ AZTÉKOK, SAIID, BETON.HOFI and KRÚBI will be representing the local scene with a lot of guests and with a marathon mixed bash on the FALUNAP.
During the day dropYard will convert into the center of the most exciting breakdance battles of Europe. You can see the most talented breakers battling it out such as the identical twins, LES TWINS, THE RUGGEDS, KRIS & MAREK and JUNIOR.
Cirque du Sziget is back again with outstanding new-circus international performances. The program will be split between the outdoor stage and the big top tent, as well as a small addition for this year on the grass where, 4 women, from the company LA BURRASCA with their own crane, will question our future. IMRE BAROSS HUNGARIAN CIRCUS SCHOOL is back in the tent program and will be sharing the stage for a double-bill with the PALESTINIAN CIRCUS SCHOOL. BARCODE CIRCUS COMPANY will take us on a journey of exploration of memory and relationships. The audience can enjoy COMPAGNIE CABAS and their show Desiderata revolving around the question of gender, and CIRQUE LA COMPAGNIE and their acrobatic, virtuoso and burlesque universe with L’Avis Bidon. The highlights from the outdoor stage are HANDS SOME FEET with their unconventional love story, Time to loop from Duo Kaos around the synchronous game of movement, and finally HISASHI WATANABE from Japan, who will show us his unique approach on juggling.
The infamous Magic Mirror venue is dedicated to the artistic expression and the social issues of the LGBTQ communities. This year, its Main Show’s cabaret and acrobatic acts will be directed by SCOTT MAIDMENT, alongside with other performing art programs. For your entertainment you can find the Canadian GERARD REYES’ tribute to Janet Jackson and to steamy club nights, great disco parties such as Sweetie Darling, WOW or Queer House Party, soul- and joyful concerts by LEOPOLD, CAT BURNS or SADO OPERA, ass-shaking or arty live acts by SNAX and Yinna, and of course, some great underground vibes from OMOH + JOSH CAFFE. A special Night for Peace is dedicated to Ukraine for supporting our neighbours. This year’s program at the Magic Mirror will end with a fantastic Ballroom Night with its local ambassadors and international guests.
Magic Mirror will also be the venue for the festival’s all-star comedy line-up. The shows, hosted by DAVE THOMPSON, will include MIKE GUNN, PHIL NICHOL, PIERRE HOLLINS, PRINCE ABDI, STEPHEN GRANT and PETER FLANAGAN.
Music Box will bring you Berlin’s new-soul electro-acoustic duo TANGA ELEKTRA, the also German, GUACÁYO combining pop music with reggae, dub and hip-hop. Don’t miss a concert by Texas-born keyboard madman JAMES LEG. The Hungarian performers include ÁRON ANDRÁS ‘APEY’, who combines the American folk/country genre with grunge jazz, the singer-songwriter BOEBECK from Pécs, the doctor-turned-musician O’SULLIVAN and BARKÓCZI NOÉMI, who just returned with her new indie/pop project and a fresh album.
The Traveling Funfair will be the guardian of traditions of Hungarian fairground entertainment at the festival. A variety of target shooting devices will be on display. Magicians, puppeteers, fortune tellers, jugglers, artists and, to top it all off, Germany’s smallest Ferris wheel will be waiting in its familiar place for regulars and newcomers. The Belgian Automata Carrousel is a stunning installation consisting of eleven different scenes where visitors can open individual windows and control the action with a handle.
You can also pop into special performances while walking around the island. The Walkabouts will tour the festival area with their machines and costumes. You’ll be able to see the Sacred Cows of Paris Bénarés, the drums and fireworks of Deabru Beltzak and the unique performance of Robson Catalunha. You can also meet the traditional Chalaang Drummers Of India and the mindblowing performance of Delinus.
