More musical gifts from Open’er Festival! The giants of pop and dance music, the British goddess of guitar and one of the most popular Irish groups of the last decade – ROBYN, DIPLO, ANNA CALVI and KODALINE join the festival’s line-up.
Few people can, like ROBYN, masterfully combine catchy pop melodies and club electronics with texts with rather complex emotions and interpersonal relations. Although she began her musical career in the 1990s, the 2007 international breakthrough was undoubtedly the year when the single “With Every Heartbeat” recorded with Kleerup reached the top of the UK charts. Even then she knew that she wanted to make music only on her own terms. A few years earlier, she terminated the contract with her current label and founded her own – Konichiwa` Records. The “Body Talk” album series gave her the status of a generation voice, and the sound of the hits “Dancing On My Own”, “Call Your Girlfriend” and “Hang With Me” still remains the inspiration for the biggest contemporary pop stars. Released in 2018, the album “Honey” is called a great return. The album collects fantastic reviews (among others, it went to the Best New Music section of the Pitchfork website), and ROBYN again goes on tour. It could not miss the Open’er Festival!
The DIPLO performance is equally spectacular. The American DJ and producer began his adventure with music at the end of the nineties, and began to make their first successes in the middle of the last decade, among others thanks to cooperation with M.I.A (co-produced, among others, Grammy nominated hit “Paper Planes”). Since then, DIPLO has started cooperation with the biggest music stars, including Justin Bieber, Lil Wayne, Beyoncé, Britney Spears and Ariana Grande. However, he gained the biggest publicity in recent years as a pillar of Major Lazer formation, with which he created such hits as “Powerful”, “Light It Up” and one of the greatest hits of the 21st century, that is “Lean On”. He has also recently emerged as a member of the Silk City project and the LSD supergroup, which also included Labrinth and SIA.
Among the announced acts there was also one of the most interesting rock artists of contemporary rock – ANNA CALVI. Both her personal debut from 2011 and the next album “One Breath” received, inter alia, nominations for the prestigious Mercury Music Prize. Since then, she has collaborated with legends like Brian Eno, Marianne Faithfull, David Byrne and Brian Wilson. Critics and fans were delighted not only with her compositional skills, but also with guitar virtuosity and incredibly expressive live performances. In 2018 ANNA CALVI presented her third album “Hunter” – an extremely personal, cleansing album, on which, she faces the existing, stereotypical definitions of femininity and gender.
The last artist of this announcement is the Irish band KODALINE. Their debut “In a Perfect World” from 2013 emerged from the top of the Irish list of the most-bought albums, and third place in the UK Top 40. The team also built a strong position in the US and Europe. KODALINE’s second album, ‘Coming Up for Air’, was released at the beginning of 2015 and quickly repeated the success of the debut. In the summer of 2016, the single “Raging” recorded by KODALINE together with the Norwegian electronic music producer Kygo enjoyed great popularity. Since then, KODALINE‘s music has gained electronic power and sounds very hit. The third album “Politics of Living” was created with a galaxy of producers – pop guru Wayne Hector, Jonny Coffer (Beyoncé, Emeli Sandé, Naughty Boy) and Two Inch Punch (Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, Sam Smith).
