Festival organisers have added ten new names to the Pinkpop 2020 line-up! Rock-strong singers BISHOP BRIGGS and MAISIE PETERS complete the Pinkpop Friday with rock bands SAINT PHNX and TEN TIMES A MILLION. The necessary dose of soul and pop will be delivered by SEA GIRLS, NONA and THE BIG MOON on Saturday 20th June. As announced yesterday, THE KIK makes an appearance with orchestra on Sunday 21st June. Finally, rapper ARES brings a good portion of hip-hop on Sunday and VELVET VOLUME adds some pure rock to the Pinkpop 2020 line-up!
Call it alternative pop or talk about her in your face lyrics, but what really matters at BISHOP BRIGGS is her voice! Pure, hard and full of boundless enthusiasm her voice will be the mainstay of her Pinkpop debut. There will be no escape from this powerful singer even at the back of the field. Also ready for her first ever performance at Pinkpop is the then 20-year-old Maisie Peters. With the self-proclaimed Emo Girl Pop, the English singer-songwriter manages to reach millions of listeners from singles to albums full of strongly produced pop songs.
The brothers Stevie and Al Jukes of SAINT PHNX have the same listening figures as MAISIE PETERS by touring with, among others, Imagine Dragons, Yungblud and Lewis Capaldi. Their recently released debut album DDMN – Deadmen guarantees even more sing-along material during their live shows. TEN TIMES A MILLION promises an equally enthusiastic stage presentation. The music of the five friends from the Netherlands and Germany contains a clear straightforward rock groove. At the end of 2016, they were allowed to be the icing on the cake of their countless live shows at the Ziggo Dome during the aftershow for none other than Red Hot Chili Peppers!
A nice Britpop injection for the Pinkpop Saturday is delivered by SEA GIRLS. The four boys from London write nice, easy-to-listen songs. These ensure that the public favorites in their own country receive the title “flag bearers of the sing-along doll”. Whose numbers are getting better and better in our memory are those of the NONA from Brabant. The soul singer grows up in her parents’ record store and picks up a guitar in her adolescent years. We are only too happy that she did that, because the result of her repertoire so far built up can be absolute! THE BIG MOON is also working on a unique repertoire: both Britpop and soul references can be found in their music, but the three girls from London also mix grunge and pop through it!
If you say THE KIK, you have been saying strong albums full of sharp Dutch-language music for eight years. Last year THE KIK even recorded a live album with covers from Boudewijn de Groot classics. This retrospective of the Dutch pop past brings THE KIK along with the orchestra to Pinkpop Sunday.
The Rens Ottema from Brabant, better known as ARES, will take its place in Dutch hip hop from 2012. The rapper inspired by The Opposites is characterised by relaxed and soulful beats with which he positively shares his life and feelings with us. VELVET VOLUME has been working hard for quite some time. The Danish twins and their sister formed a rock band when they were sixteen and score one garage punk rock hit after the other. With a mountain of energy and inspiration, the Danish sisters prove their sense of show, a live experience that you must have seen!
