Phoenix added to the Super Bock Super Rock line up

The 25th edition of Super Bock Super Rock marks the return of the festival to Sesimbra and to Meco, to the beach and to camping. On 18, 19 and 20 July, a great celebration of the most authentic music of the moment is expected, 3 days to be remembered forever.

After the confirmations of names like LANA DEL REY, THE 1975, JANELLE MONÁE, CAT POWER, MIGOS, KAYTRANADA, METRONOMY and others, there is another confirmed poster head: the French indie pop band PHOENIX perform on July 19th on the Super Bock Stage .

It all began in the suburbs of Paris when vocalist Thomas Mars, bassist Deck D’Arcy and guitarist Christian Mazzalai decided to make a garage band, like so many other youngsters in the mid-1990s. Soon after, Mazzalai’s brother, guitarist Branco, also joined the group. The band began by playing versions of Hank Williams and Prince for audiences in Paris pubs, still without the signature PHOENIX. The name only appeared a few years later, when the first singles were released, at a time when they were divided between punk rock and krautrock. The band was still searching for its identity when it released “Heatwave,” a single very close to the aesthetic record of the ’70s. The way was this: to put together many things and integrate them into a PHOENIX language.

The first album appears in the year 2000. “United” and features the participation of family and friends, including Thomas Bangalter (Daft Punk) and Philippe Zdar (Cassius). Next came the albums “Alphabetical” (2004) and “It’s Never Been Like That” (2006). These albums have grown the band’s fan base and also good press reviews, but the acclaim would only hit in 2009 with “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix,” an album that is still singled out as the band’s masterpiece and one of best albums of the last ten years. “1901”, “Lisztomania” or “Countdown” were in the hearts of music lovers around the world. It is never easy to continue to amaze after a masterpiece, but PHOENIX did not accept the pressure and continued testing their music limits on the following records – In “Bankrupt!” (2013) and “Ti Amo” (2017) there is experimentation, oriental echoes, a lot of memory (always the 70s …), synthesizers dominated with a rare mastery and pearls like “J-Boy”.

And now it is time for the Portuguese public to enjoy the authentic talent of these four Frenchmen, on July 19 at Super Bock Super Bock Super Rock.
