In time for the end of 2022, the Greenfield Festival is releasing most of the bands that will be rocking the stages in Interlaken next year. With PAPA ROACH, HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, THE BOSSHOSS and many more we can look forward to some real bangers. In addition to the acts already mentioned, 14 other bands are known to demolish the Greenfield Festival 2023. From rock to metal to punk – no genre is left out and there is something for every fan of loud guitar music to make his heart beat faster.
PAPA ROACH Driven by a palpable enthusiasm, the new songs are the sound of a band full of ideas that sound fresh and yet somehow familiar. With their 30th anniversary on the horizon, the new record is a perfect marriage between a great past and a future all their own. The band name The HU is the Mongolian root word for human. They call their style “Hunnu Rock” inspired by the Hunnu, an ancient Mongolian empire known in western culture as the Huns. Since the band’s formation in 2016, they’ve taken the metal world by storm, selling out numerous shows, playing huge festivals and releasing great collabs with Papa Roach and Halestorm, among others.
The band HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD from Los Angeles has been around for more than 15 years and has built up a cross-genre fan base. Their musical style is heavily influenced by nu metal, rap and hard rock. Hollywood Undead’s live shows are quite the spectacle, as we witnessed at the Greenfield Festival. THE BOSSHOSS let it rip again! The Berlin 21st Century Cowboys present themselves as modern and energetic as never before – as an appetizer for their new album, the guys around Boss Burns and Hoss Power are already releasing a decent dancefloor hit with the single “Dance The Boogie”. With their gripping country rock crossover, THE BOSSHOSS have shaped the European music scene like no other band over the past decade and a half.
Simply calling THE DISTILLERS a punk band doesn’t do the band or the word “punk” justice. After twelve years of radio silence, The Distillers returned; in September 2018 they released their first singles in 15 years, “Man vs. Magnet” and “Blood in Gutters”. The band is currently working on the follow-up to “Coral Fang” in the studio, and we’ll soon be expecting another batch fresh from the house of the punk gods. The Ibbenbüren band DONOTS has released many great albums in the last almost 30 years, first in English, but in the last 10 years they have made the switch to German-language songs. You can see how much passion is put into it at every live show. The heart is beating faster, the sun is shining, the throat is screaming, the circle pit is spinning – welcome home, dear DONOTS!
HALESTORM not only belt out snappy songs, they also show us that rock can be soulful and powerful at the same time. The US rock band around Lizzy Hale has sold well over 2 million albums with their 5 studio albums. Still on the road with Alter Bridge in 2022, we are happy that Halestorm will honor us at the Greenfield Festival next year! Musically, the versatile British band ENTER SHIKARI has entertained us over the years with their wild mix of post-hardcore, electronicore and metalcore, which is peppered with electronic elements from dubstep or drum and bass. But of course, massive breakdowns are not neglected in Enter Shikari, full roar ahead!
ANTI-FLAG’s new album was born out of an obsessive need not only to comment on the dystopian corporate desertion we are all facing, but to trace it back to its origins; all the political circumstances, laws, cultural changes and ongoing injustice that have led to the world we live in today. Like the band itself in their almost 30-year band history, the album is of course an anti-war statement in both the literal and figurative sense.
The real story is beneath the surface, beneath the plaster. If you ignore the facade, peel off the layers and take a closer look, you might get to the truth. Aussie heavy alternative quartet THE AMITY AFFLICTION cocoon raw honesty in haunting hooks, pounding grooves and intoxicating riffs.
The story of ska rock maestros LESS THAN JAKE is not told in their extensive discography. Nor can it be calculated based on the number of road kilometers they have logged. Nope! Less Than Jake’s cumulative value revolves around what they bring to the party. The punk-genre-melting five-piece band’s rebellious ethos is alive and well, and they’ve don’t waste time. ZEBRAHEAD are revitalized, ready for the streets and once again eager to bring their distinctive, fun sound to the masses along with a new band member and new songs.
The dark visionaries of heavy metal n’ roll, AVATAR, didn’t choose their nickname by accident. An avatar is either a physical manifestation of a deity or a symbol representing a being in another realm. Both meanings perfectly describe the Swedish rock sensation as they built something bigger than life. Ambitious, top-flight magicians, AVATAR are pushing the boundaries between band, theater company and film with a string of acclaimed albums and videos. With their new songs, TOUCHÉ AMORÉ look back on their past and use hard-won optimism to point their fans to light and love. Ultimately, what is the message of “Lament”? The post-hardcore band’s lead singer Jeremy Bolm puts it succinctly: “Time doesn’t heal. That love can nourish. That it’s okay not to be okay.”
The new songs from LIONHEART sound powerful, aggressive and destructive – and beyond that just damn good. Anyone who has seen Lionheart knows that this energy is also released on and in front of the stage, like an unstoppable Sharknado. Who exactly are SLEEP TOKEN? This is unclear and mysterious, but one thing is clear: in recent years, they have turned critics and fans alike with their distinctive sound, their extravagant looks and their impressive shows. Their exciting, alternative sound mixes different cross-genre styles. We can look forward to a top-class show that you don’t see every day. Whoever hears COILGUNS from La Chaux-de-Fonds for the first time might think they are dealing with a band from the far north of Norway. The haunting fear felt while listening to The Mathcore Band is both powerful and soothing. Elements of black metal, post-hardcore and sludge can also be found in the sound of the French-speaking Swiss.
It was never “just a phase” for TAYLOR ACORN, who grew up in the pop punk/pop rock scene of the early ’90s and 2000s. Since 2020, she has caught the attention of many emo/pop punk bands with her cover songs. With her own highly infectious releases like “Do That Again”, “In My Head” and “Shapeshifting”, Taylor is now making her own footprint in the pop punk community and giving her fans a place where she feels safe and belongs can feel.
