METALLICA is coming to the 51st edition of Pinkpop in 2022! On Friday 17th June, the band will close the festival on the Mainstage. Earlier organisers were able to announce the arrival of PEARL JAM and NOTHING BUT THIEVES. Unfortunately, with METALLICA’s confirmation for the first day of the festival, there is also some less good news, the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS are no longer coming to the 51st edition of Pinkpop!
Pinkpop 2014 would go down in history as one of the most “heavy’ editions of the festival ever. Great rock acts on the poster, but also a weather alarm in the festival region on Monday 9 June. A thunderstorm made the audience hold their breath for a while before METALLICA took to the stage to close the festival in grand style. It was already the second triumph for the American band at Pinkpop, as James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo also made a deep impression there in 2008.
And then came COVID-19. But don’t think now that the band was idle during the pandemic. METALLICA celebrated the 20th anniversary of S&M – their infamous live album with the San Francisco Symphony – by reworking that party with S&M2, released in August 2020. Since March of the same year, fans have also been able to entertain themselves with the #MetallicaMondays on YouTube and Facebook, complete archived shows for those boring Monday nights.
By 2021, METALLICA’s eleventh studio album is pretty much done and now that the first concerts have been announced, Metallifever strikes again. Fast forward to 2022: Metallica is coming to Pinkpop again, so start practicing for a few hours of screaming along to their greatest hits!
