Massive Attack head to Denmark to play NorthSide Festival

It is the absolute epitome of NorthSide’s music DNA, when the trip hop legends MASSIVE ATTACK visit the festival in 2020. The band has always topped the festival’s wish list – as well as the audience’s – and this year they’re joined by Danish band HUGORM, Sonic Youth icon KIM GORDON and the hip hop phenomenon LITTLE SIMZ.

With massive hits such as “Teardrop” and “Unfinished Sympathy”, MASSIVE ATTACK – which consists of Robert “3D” Del Naja and Grant “Daddy G” Marshall – embody the golden age of the ’90s and the distinctive electronic trip hop genre. MASSIVE ATTACK, who have sold more than 13 million albums worldwide, are known to stimulate all the senses and seduce audiences, both musically and visually. Their sound has been ground-breaking, and they have founded the so-called Bristol sound, which has served as the guiding star for numerous electronic bands around the world.

To this day, the band’s pioneer status extends far beyond the lights of the stage. MASSIVE ATTACK have just unveiled a collaboration carried out with scientists from the University of Manchester on how to reduce CO2 emissions when touring. Specifically, the band will only travel by train throughout 2020 and once again they show how to lead the way – far beyond the world of music.

The former Sonic Youth bassist KIM GORDON made her debut as a solo artist with the critically acclaimed album “No Home Record” in the fall of 2019. Her sound is experimental, cool and a clear indicator that Gordon’s concert at NorthSide is going to be an exclusive rendezvous with one of the most prolific women in the history of noise rock.

The Danish act HUGORM was formed in 2017 when Nephew’s leading man Simon Kvamm joined forces with Morten Gorm and Árni Bergmann Jóhannsson. HUGORM is a sanctuary where Simon Kvamm can, according to his own words, “freak out”, and he describes their sound as “Massive Attack meets Prodigy meets Post Malone meets Love Shop meets Beastie Boys,”.

LITTLE SIMZ from Great Britain has achieved status as a true hip hop phenomenon at the age of just 25. She released her debut mixtape in 2010, and since then three albums have followed. The latest album “GRAY Area” from 2019, which received 5 stars by GAFFA Magazine, has been described as a demonstration of power with highly skilled rap flows and clear-cut productions.

To welcome MASSIVE ATTACK to NorthSide festival is a dream come true for organisers, as they are once again able to present a name from the absolute top shelf. MASSIVE ATTACK have always been ground-breaking in their work, and once again they take it to the next level with this tour’s radical focus on sustainability. It is an important statement for the industry and one that is fully in line with NorthSide’s core values.

KIM GORDON, LITTLE SIMZ and MASSIVE ATTACK will play Northside Festival Saturday, June 6th and HUGORM will play Thursday, June 4th
