Headliners include Grammy award winning JAYDA J, COLLEEN ‘COSMO’ MURPHY and DAN SHAKE on Saturday, and PROSUMER and EROL ALKAN on the Sunday.
As a female building a festival from the ground up, I’ve faced my own challenges in this male dominated industry. I wanted to redress the balance not only with an equal lineup of fantastic, female, queer and male artists, but also by helping to nurture new talent. This is why I joined forces with renowned DJs Sophie Lloyd and Scarlett O’Malley to launch a competition to encourage emerging female talent. We had some great entries and I’m really looking forward to our competition winner DJ Jill‘s opening set on the Main Stage on Saturday.
Vicky Fenton, Festival founder
Drawing on the woods of Shambala and Secret Garden Party for inspiration, the festival attracts a beautifully diverse crowd and always delivers a large dose of much needed magic. Beginning in 2017 the festival has grown and now welcomes 2500 people each year but has still managed to stay true to itself. From its interactive art installations to secret hideaways, there’s loads of hidden paths to follow and music to discover across the four stages which are largely built from the reclaimed materials of the forest floor. The Wild Wood Disco is intimate, independent and created “for the love of a good party”.
Production levels are incredibly high with jawdropping laser shows and world class sound systems that are far superior to many of the larger festivals. Vicky commented, “It’s all about the wow factor and goosebump moments for the crowd, we love to bring that to people. It really feels totally different to all the homogenised festivals with big brands, VIP areas and huge crowds- we’re doing something really special and intimate like festivals did maybe 15 years ago, you can feel the love.”
Imagine a classic free party from the early 90s. You’ll probably picture a farm, miles from the nearest neighbours, a sense of freedom and strangers becoming friends. In an ideal world, there’d be a clearing in the trees for the sound system, with the setting sun falling through the leaves to create a natural glitterball across the dance floor. Welcome to the Wild Wood Disco, one of the finest settings for a party we’ve ever seen.
