FIRST AID KIT will play their first Oslo concert since they played in Spektrum in the spring of 2018, while it will be the first visit to Norway since 2017 for MARGO PRICE. Organisers look forward to finally showing Øya’s favorite KAMARA to a large audience.
Johanna and Klara Söderberg aka FIRST AID KIT became hugely popular in a short time as teenagers, after gaining great enthusiasm around their early recordings. Since then, they have had huge radio hits, delivered solid records and played on big stages on several continents. In 2022, they are back on tour. This means that we can look forward to another great FIRST AID KIT year.
The sisters released their first album in 2010 and have since gained a loyal audience with their songs inspired by classical folk and soft americana. The two subsequent successful releases The Lion’s Roar and Stay Gold were produced by Mike Mogis from the island’s current Bright Eyes. At the subsequent Ruins (2018) there were musical contributions from members of Wilco, Midlake and R.E.M .. Since then, they have released a recording of a tribute concert to Leonard Cohen.
The award-winning artist MARGO PRICE is strongly inspired by classic country. The debut album as a solo artist was called Midwest Farmer’s Daughter and came out in 2016, on Jack White’s Third Man Records. It was considered by several music media as one of the year’s ten best albums. The following year came the sequel All American Made, which meant that her audience grew in both North America and Europe.
For a few years she was a member of the band Buffalo Clover, which released three albums. Island favorite Sturgill Simpson has at times been part of her backing band The Pricetags. The latest album That’s How Rumors Get Started (2020) is produced by Simpson.
KAMARA flew out of the starting blocks in 2019, and impressed time and time again. She has shown us what a live artist she is at Camp Øya, Klubbdagen, Biblioteket and not least during the concert series ØYA PRESENTS in 2021. Now it’s time for her to meet a large audience, as part of Øya’s main program.
Fatuma Kamara was born in Sierra Leone and grew up in Bergen. She gets radio play with constantly new singles. This spring came the EP The Long Way Home. KAMARA mixes RnB and pop in an energetic way, and shows a completely different joy of communication on stage. The music news industry panel named her the talent most believed in in 2020. Expectations are getting higher and higher and she lives up to them time and time again.
Universitas about The Long Way Home: – Five tracks make up a good mix of dance-friendly happy pop with a change of tempo, and with a good production in the back, it is a juicy ep with a strong and consistent narrative. No big taste surprises, but definitely spiced up well with KAMARA‘s steady and beautiful voice.
