Christmas Eve is in 2 days and that means that the Waken Open Air Advent Calendar is once again coming to an end. But it also means that there are new bands twice in short succession!
Today we have an extra colorful mix across a variety of genres for you. We are looking forward to welcome OVERKILL, WHILE SHE SLEEPS, DANKO JONES, LOUDNESS, KISSIN’ DYNAMITE, SOEN, MICHAEL MONROE, GUN and last but not least the incomparable MAMBO KURT!
Rock ‘n’ roll ain’t no luxury item. It’s essential. It’s the blood in our veins and the fire in our hearts. And nobody does it better than DANKO JONES.
Formed in Toronto in 1996, this six-legged riff ‘n’ refrain machine have spent the last two decades delivering huge, jolting doses of stripped back ‘n’ strutting hard rock with the relentlessness of men possessed. Led by Danko himself, the closest thing the modern world has to a credible king of rock’n’roll, and now deftly supported by suave bass maestro John Calabrese and loose-limbed drum god Rich Knox, this pumped-up Canadian power trio grabbed the world’s attention with a flurry of early EPs, before exploding fully into action with 2002’s full-length debut Born A Lion.
With new partnerships, new horizons and a healthy serving of new anthems, DANKO JONES’ determined mission to rock the world’s socks off is clicking into a new gear. Get ready to rock. After all, what else is there?
In an age where music is available instantly and bands appear and fade just as quickly, the power and resiliency that is OVERKILL who’s initial social media was stuffing show flier ads under windshield wipers in the 80s, has remained as resolute as ever, and even more so.
New frontiers aren’t often conquered in the modern world of heavy metal, yet OVERKILL remain unfazed by the growing presence of social media, modern internet, a demand for streaming services, and a general sense of competition between the sea of other metal bands trying to make a name for themselves, today.
With at least the next six months already blocked off for a South American tour, followed by a European Tour and U.S. Tour, OVERKILL are on overdrive as usual with no signs of coming to a halt. This most recent cycle has a different feel; an old formula that evolved with new life and new breath and that after all these years, still generates an exquisite power.
Some bands play it safe when it comes to taking their next steps. But then, WHILE SHE SLEEPS have never been “some band”. The Sheffield quintet have made a career out of confounding expectations, be it through their dizzying blend of crushing metal, guttural hardcore and arena-worthy hooks, or the way they’ve carried themselves over an explosive, 13-year career.
With a bigger platform to get their music into the world and a firestorm of a first single released, 2019 is shaping up to be the year of While She Sleeps. For a band that have spent over a decade redefining modern metal, it seems the best is yet to come.
More bands announced on Thursday 24th December…
