At Smukfest organisers work every day in the hope that by August we have come to the back of the Corona crisis and together we need and need to have a good and warm festival in Dyrehaven in Skanderborg.
In this context, it is a pleasure to be able to add Denmark’s biggest band, VOLBEAT, which will be followed by American rock icon IGGY POP, English soul diva LISA STANSFIELD and jazz and fusion giant HERBIE HANCOCK to the program for Smukfest 2020.
VOLBEAT does not play many festivals in their home country and organisers are super proud that they have now chosen Smukfest for their only Danish concert in 2020. VOLBEAT has not visited Skanderborg since they played a legendary concert at the Bøgescenerne in 2010. The Smukfest audience has since had them high on the wish list year after year, and now the festival has finally managed to get Denmark’s biggest rock band ever back to Dyrehaven.
“The Godfather of Punk” is one of IGGY POP’s many nicknames. And without any doubt, we are also talking about an artist who has not only stayed sharp since the late 60s – but which has also inspired lots of other bands and soloists along the way. IGGY POP, born as James Newell Osterberg in Michigan, USA, in 1947 was punk before anyone else when he, with his band The Stooges in 1969, debuted with the album of the same name. In the 70s, IGGY POP teamed up with David Bowie, who was both producer and co-songwriter on Iggy’s first two success albums “The Idiot” and “Lust For Life”. Both came out in 1977 and included hit singles such as “China Girl”, “Lust for Life” and “The Passenger”, which has since been among Iggy’s biggest hits. Since then it has become a long and extensive career with lots of releases. In January of this year, IGGY POP received a deserved Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
Many consider LISA STANSFIELD one of the greatest soul singers England has fostered. She achieved no less than 16 singles in the English hit list Top 40 in the period 1989 – 1997 and with the debut album “Affection” she broke through the world in 1989. The album has been sold for more than 5 million. copies and gave LISA STANSFIELD 3 Brit Awards, 2 Ivar Novello awards, a single Billboard award and two US Grammy nominations.
Pianist, composer and producer HERBIE HANCOCK has received no fewer than 14 Grammy Awards throughout her career. Album of The Year for the 2007 album “The River” (where he interprets Joni Mitchell), Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals for “The Imagine Project” in 2011 (including Pink, India.Arie, Seal and Jeff Beck contributing ) and most recently a Grammy Lifetime Award in 2016. He played with Miles Davis in the 60s – and with albums such as “Headhunters” (1973), he was in the 70s in front of the fusion of jazz, funk and rock. With releases like the world hit “Rockit” (taken from the album “Future Shock”, 1983), HERBIE HANCOCK also included electronic dance music in his repertoire, in the usual groundbreaking way.
