THE VACCINES have just been announced for Neverworld 2019, making them the first act to enter the immersive musical kingdom taking place over the first weekend of August in Kent.
Having drawn comparisons to The Ramones and The Jesus And Mary Chain, THE VACCINES have revitalised British indie rock music since their formation in 2009. The band’s first single gained major praise from the influential DJ Zane Lowe, who named it as the ‘Hottest record in the World’ in August 2010 and were rightly predicted to help usher in a new era of British guitar music by Clash Magazine. After this then came the successful releases of three major albums, leading to the band’s classic sound becoming commonplace across British households. Since releasing their fourth album, ‘Combat Sports’, in 2018 the indie rock band have sold nearly two million records worldwide. Having played with and opened up for huge acts such as The Rolling Stones, Arcade Fire and Arctic Monkeys, they have remained in high demand since their debut album in 2011, which was the best-selling debut album of 2011 in the United Kingdom.
Renowned for championing upcoming artists before they entered the mainstream, such as Bastille, London Grammar and future Grammy award winners Clean Bandit, this festival successfully balances new music with well-regarded acts. This year alongside THE VACCINES, SLEEPER, LUCY SPRAGGAN, THE FUTUREHEADS, GEORGIA, BLACK HONEY, SQUID, INDOOR PETS, THE SHE STREET BAND, FERRIS & SYLVESTER, ED THE DOG, HIMALAYAS, WALT DISCO, LUCIA, RINA MUSHONGA, have just been announced for the festival.
Starting from humble beginnings in 2006, Lee Denny’s parent’s left him alone for a week with one simple rule: do not have a house party. Lee and his friends decided that technically a festival in the garden would not count: LeeFest was born. Since then, the festival has grown year on year, carrying a fierce scene of independence and picking up multiple awards along the way. 10 years later Lee’s mum asked when he was going to ‘grow up and get a proper job?’ Inspiration struck and Lee immediately knew what the next chapter of the story should be. With his friends he was going to build more than just a festival, he was going to build a whole world (inspired by his favourite story) where people never have to grow old (even if just for one weekend). Neverworld became the grand vision for the future of the LeeFest fairytale.
Now with a capacity of 5,000 and set in the grounds of a beautiful forest just 40 minutes from central London, this spectacular kingdom of music, party and wonder is made up of three magical realms: The Neverwoods, Skull Ridge and Mermaids Lagoon. With 11 stages and 24 hours of music and partying, it’s bound to be an unforgettable weekend for those lucky enough to attend.
Encompassing the ethos ‘Never Grow Old’, Neverworld caters for everyone, being praised as a ‘Top Family Festival’ by Go Outdoors. Whether you’re 5, 25 or 45, at Neverworld everyone dons tribal costumes to dance to new music, discover exquisite locally produced food and drink and make new friends in the beautiful surroundings of the Kentish countryside.
Over the coming months more will be revealed about the festival’s extensive 2019 lineup, as well as the other adventures which await festival-goers.
Neverworld takes place from the 1st-4th August, in Hever, Kent. Tickets are available now from neverworld.co.uk.
