Sónar by Day undergoes a renovation, and among other new features yet to be announced, will premiere the new SonarPark by DICE stage. A new space designed to showcase the spirit of Sónar at its broadest, most radical and most innovative, presented in collaboration with our ticketing partner and event discovery platform DICE. It’s both a vibrant party and a tribute to the ever-widening range of styles and ideas that make up global club culture.
Headlining the announcement is C. TANGANA. The most well-known figure in Spanish popular music today will play an extraordinary show following his latest album “El Madrileño”. HEADIE ONE, the drill rapper who is reinventing the genre in the UK, will also make his first appearance at Sónar. BONOBO will return to present his upcoming album ‘Fragments’ and the opening act from his previous tour, producer POTÉ, joins him to play a percussive DJ set.
Another Sónar regular, French DJ and producer AGORIA, will return to the festival to play an expansive and emotive DJ set. And UK duo OVERMONO will also return to the festival for a euphoric live set. Galician brothers YUGEN KALA will also play a breakneck DJ set mixing bass music and IDM.
LYRA PRAMUK, the radical American vocalist and songwriter, will present a new audio-visual show entitled “Echoluminescence”. Another American living in Berlin, LSDXOXO Live, will present a new politically charged live show. COUCOU CHLOE adds a darker shade to the programme, while VEGYN’S abstract beats and relaxed vibe will fit in perfectly at Sónar by Day.
The current wave of young national urban creativity will be represented by two young sensations: Barcelona rapper EL BOBE and rising Spanish trap star JUICY BAE. They will be joined by prolific emo-rapper ROJUU, another local artist warping the template of global trap. The duo MORI, RUSOWSKY (who produced the track “Bien” for C. Tangana) will bring their intimate bedroom pop to the stage. And finally, DJ BRAVA will mix reggaeton, trap and r’n’b with a vital and urgent sense of fun.
There will also be two unconventional shows dealing with themes of loss and grief: the ritualistic music of French-Venezuelan artist LA CHICA; and Ireland’s FOR THOSE I LOVE, who combines spoken word and electronica with brutal intensity. Argentinian experimentalist IHHH joins visual artists Desilence for a stunning audio-visual performance centred on the piano. And, in a unique collaboration presented by Patreon, HAINBACH, LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER and CUCKOO will join forces for a special show mixing discussion and performance entitled “Uncompressed”.
