The feminist punk and artist collective, PUSSY RIOT became world famous after its protest action against Vladimir Putin in Moscow 2012.
A regime-critical “punk prayer” that resulted in the imprisonment of three members, Maria “Masha” Alyokhina, Nadezhda Tolokonnikova and Yekaterina Samutsevich. A judgment that during the two years they were imprisoned was severely criticized by the outside world. Artists like Paul McCartney, Björk and Madonna were among those who joined the defence of Pussy Riot.
About the time in prison, Masha Alyokhina has written the book Riot Days which was published in Swedish this fall. Based on the book, PUSSY RIOT will tour this year with a show where punk, electronica, theater, documentary photo and protest are united. The show toured last year in the US for exuberant reviews and is currently out on a comprehensive European tour.
This summer, it’s time for Storsjöyran with a show as intensely uncompromising as Pussy Riot’s political conviction.
