Following the confirmation of IRON MAIDEN, JUDAS PRIEST and AEROSMITH as the other headliners for the 25th XL edition of Graspop Metal Meeting, the organisers have added FAITH NO MORE as the final headline act for next summer. The American rock band will end main stage proceedings on Friday. GMM XL takes place from 18th – 21st June 2020 at the Stenehei festival grounds in Dessel, Belgium.
The groundwork for FAITH NO MORE was laid in San Francisco in 1979 but the Californians didn’t change their name until three years later. After experimenting with different vocalists they found the ideal frontman in Chuck Mosley, who manned the mic on FAITH NO MORE’s first two albums. In 1989 – by then Mosley had made way for Mike Patton – the band broke worldwide with ’The Real Thing’ and hit single ‘Epic’, which signalled the start of a very successful period. ‘Angel Dust’ (1992), ‘King for a Day… Fool for a Lifetime’ and ‘Album of the Year’ (1997) were also certified many times over and catapulted FAITH NO MORE into world stardom. Nevertheless the band was running out of steam and FAITH NO MORE dissolved in 1998.
In 2009 they reunited and embarked on a world tour and in 2015 they hit the road again in support of their new record ‘Sol Invictus’. In 2020 they’ll be playing the world’s biggest stages once more and a new album is also in the works.
Although FAITH NO MORE’s music has often been labelled alternative metal or funk metal, their style is actually impossible to pigeon-hole. Few bands are able to weave such a diverse palette of influences into their work in such a seamless manner and Mike Patton’s tremendous vocal versatility takes their output to the next level.
