LEWIS CAPALDI has been winning fans around the world as one of the music wonders of recent years. The artist from Glasgow caused a stir in the music market back in 2017, when he released his hit single “Bruises”. This song, exploring the end of a relationship, has a taciturn yet poignant tone and Capaldi stirs emotions with his characteristic voice. “Bruises” was enough to put Capaldi on the musical map and the video has nearly 50 million views on YouTube to date. All of this took place even before the release of his second single, “Lost on You”, another immediate success.
Capaldi then signed a contract with Virgin Records, and included these two singles in his debut EP, Bloom. He became a popularity phenomenon in a matter of months, which culminated in his win of Best Newcomer at the Scottish Music Awards. He spent the first part of 2018 capitalising on his rocketing career and toured the US and much of Europe. In the following months, he released two new singles with the same potential to reach crowds, “Rush”, with Jessie Reyez, and “Tough”.
However, the best was still to come with the release of his debut album. Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent came out in 2019 and shot to number one in both the UK and Ireland. It was also the best-selling album in both countries that year. The single “Someone You Loved” also reached the top of the chart of UK singles straight away, and stayed there for seven consecutive weeks. It was also number one in the US, Canada, Scotland, Malaysia, and Czech Republic, among others. It has had more than 300 million views on YouTube and it will certainly be one of the songs to captivate audiences at MEO Sudoeste, on 4th August, MEO stage. Not to be missed!
