Lana Del Rey, The 1975 & Metronomy first acts for Super Bock Super Rock 2019

She was born Elizabeth Woolridge Grant, but a reliance on the mysterious power of art has made her live other lives within herself, such as the life of LANA DEL REY, one of the most fascinating pop characters of recent years. An uncle taught her to play the guitar and at university she studied metaphysics. And there is no need to say much more, these are more than enough elements to explain the artist’s formation. As with so many others, the guitar was a kind of weapon aimed at herself to force herself to release the feelings that were trapped within. There was a lot of good there – and still good for us.

After a soft-hearted start, 2012 brought a phenomenon called “Born To Die,” a record that won the hearts of everyone, both the public and the critics, breaking records and earning first prize for the American singer. Songs like “Video Games”, “Blues Jeans” or “Born To Die” meant that half the world fell in love with the balance of this voice and this year would still bring the EP “Paradise” with the resounding single “Ride”.

The invitations of the fashion and performance world never made her distract herself from music, continuing to produce such good albums as “Ultraviolence” (2014), “Honeymoon” (2015) and “Lust For Life” (2017). In 2019 another is expected, “Norman Fucking Rockwell”, and the public of Super Bock Super Rock will be in the front line to receive these news. “Venice Bitch” is one of the new tracks – irresistible, as always.

It is already known that the British are reliable when it comes to delivering tastefully made pop / rock; and Manchester is a city that brings a quality seal to this level (The Smiths, Oasis …) THE 1975 are integrated in this good British tradition and are one of the most captivating projects of recent years.

The choice of name was not easy (before they were Talkhouse, The Slowdown, Bigsleep, Blind Tapes, Drive Like I Do …), but they ended up being THE 1975, a name that seems to match the spirit of the band. Sometimes it is not necessary to invent much: in these things of rock and of popular music, everything has been invented, and there is no harm in making simple, to the point and with desire to amuse all the people. And only then, yes, will come the taste for experimentation.

This is the philosophy and the talent comes from Matthew Healy, Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel. The success began within the UK, but the songs were so good that it was not long before themes like “The City”, “Chocolate” or “Sex” conquered the indie hearts of the world. In 2013, with the release of the self-titled album.

2018 brought another album from THE 1975: “A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships.” The critical sense is there, increasingly sharp, and the musical eclecticism, also increasingly integrated in the very worldview of this English band is rendered.

And in July, at the Super Bock Super Rock, there’s no way you’d want anything else.

Joe Mount, the leader of the METRONOMY, was not always the indie star we know today. He began by being a young man of 25 years, trying to be cool at all costs (and without success), often drunk, single and without great expectations of life. Good songs are also born of such circumstances, as we well know, and Joe Mount has always been good at stirring up emotions in others, even when he began performing as a DJ at certain clubs in Brighton. It followed The Upsides and The Customers projects, but success only came with the METRONOMY.

With a lot of memory and enamored by the pop wealth of the 80s, the British irony of lyrics does not leave the body immobile: the invitation to dance is subtle, but irresistible. “Old Skool”, “Hang Me Up to Dry” and “Back Together” are songs to fix, dance and ask for next July in the next edition of Super Bock Super Rock.
