Keane, Phlake, Saveus and Benal complete the Northside Festival Denmark line up

KEANE, PHLAKE, SAVEUS and BENAL are among the last eight names for this year’s fantastic NorthSide poster

Since October last year organisers have been able to present world-class names such as BON IVER, NEW ORDER, TAME IMPALA, THE STREETS, MAJOR LAZER, FOALS, KHALID, MIGOS, NAS, FIRST AID KIT, MARK RONSON and many others, and now add another eight exciting names for this year’s poster.

Among the international additions you will find, among other things, the millions-selling English band KEANE, who after six years’ break is finally ready to tour again. The band’s latest Danish show, called “a distinguished concert” by GAFFA, was at NorthSide in 2013, and now KEANE is bringing new music and a comeback to the big scenes.

The band with Tom Chaplin in front broke through in 2004 with the album “Hopes and Fears” which contained inevitable hits such as “Somewhere Only We Know”, “Everybody’s Changing” and “Bedshaped”, and today the band’s debut is one of the best selling English records for the past twenty years. The string of hits continued with “Is It Any Wonder?”, “Crystal Ball”, “Stop for a Minute,” Silenced by the Night “and” Sovereign Light Café “before taking a well-deserved break in 2013.

KEANE has sold more than 10 million records worldwide, and all of their four albums have been number one in their native England. They are an excellent live band with lots of songs that everyone can sing along, and this summer they finally get their comeback on NorthSide.

The English hit machine is joined by three of the most popular new Danish names. Both PHLAKE and SAVEUS have previously overturned Ådalen, with great success and the duo BENAL has signed up for their first concert at NorthSide. All three names are permanent fixtures on the Danish charts and radio stations, and each contributes something unique to the Danish music scene.

Consisting of both current and former members of Australian band Tame Impala, POND is an exciting addition to the program on the day Kevin Parker is in town. The Tame Impala frontman is both a former member of the band and producer of their latest five psychedelic gems. The latest album, “Tasmania”, was praised by both Uncut and Pitchfork, and POND’s visit to NorthSide will be the 11-year-old band’s first Danish festival concert.

The same goes for the Philadelphia band HOP ALONG, who through their careers has achieved great critical success in the United States. However, with “Bark Your Head Off, Dog” the success has spread, and the band has, among other things, been added to the program for this year’s Coachella festival. In Denmark, Soundvenue has also noticed the band, and they shared five stars for what you can now call the band’s breakthrough album. The magazine especially emphasizes Frances Quinlan, whose distinctive vocals and songwriter style make the band largely stand out from other indie bands. Soundvenue also highlighted the song “How Simple” as one of the best from 2018, and both it and the fiercely captivating “Somewhere a Judge” are excellent entry points to this truly fascinating band.

Welsh band NOVO AMOR released one of last year’s most beautiful records. The songs at “Birthplace” are often described as “warm” and “Scandinavian”, and parallels are often drawn to Bon Iver. In other words, it is heartfelt and beautiful modern folk music that exudes nature and vast expanses. NOVO AMOR has only played a single Danish concert, so this summer the talented songwriter gets his Danish festival debut at NorthSide. American MASEGO made his debut last year when he played his first Danish concert at Tinderbox last year. Here he charmed, sang and danced to a five-star review in GAFFA, and now the deeply original musician takes his self-proclaimed TrapHouseJazz style to Aarhus, where he will definitely start a party.

There are now 39 names on the poster, and although this should be considered the final program for NorthSide 2019, there is still the possibility that a few more names will be added when we get closer to the festival.
