John Fogerty, Brian Wilson and Suzi Quatro and Incubus headline Azkena Rock Festival

Today 16 names have been added to the Azkena Rock Festival poster. This year will be the 19th edition and will be held on the 19th and 20th of June 2020 in Mendizabal (Vitoria-Gasteiz).

It would be hard to think of JOHN FOGERTY and not think of ‘Proud Mary’, ‘Born on the Bayou’ or ‘Who Stop the Rain’. Not to think of the Creedence Clearwater Revival at least – it’s a seven-year hiatus, surviving a half-century later. The answer was given by FOGERTY in his work entitled “Wrote a song for everyone”. He has been doing the same for 50 years, writing songs for anyone. Fortunately, FOGERTY enjoys the Azkena Rock Festival and will perform for the second time.

BRIAN WILSON has produced some popular music. With that said, we could skip to the next paragraph. In short, what can we say about the creator of ‘Pet Sounds’? Spanish publishers have captioned Wilson’s autobiography “I’m Brian Wilson … You’re Not.” Wilson brings us the Good Vibrations Tour with Blondie Chaplin and Al Jardin of the Beach Boys.

SUZI QUATRO was ahead of Joan Jett, Chrissie Hynde, Debbie Harry or even Patti Smith, and in 2020 she will share the bill with Smith at the next ARF. They claim to be the first woman rockers in history. After two decades, Riot was rescued due to the Riot movement, and the same year SUZI QUATRO released Liam Firmager. The importance of the artist is undeniable, as well as inspiring generations of rock girls, as well as composing, acting and poet-making. The concert that he will offer in Vitoria-Gasteiz will be the only one that will perform in our territory and will say “I was there”, without a doubt.

Organisers have another important confirmation, INCUBUS. Immersed in the age of streaming platforms, we have become accustomed to measuring the impact of music on millions and hundreds of millions of streams, and many of the songs from INCUBUS are to be found there. However, there is no other way to see their repertoire live: 90. From 8 to two years ago released two decades ago. We can only see them in our territory in the ARF.

DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS will be returning to Spain for the first time in ten years after releasing The Unravelling album in January, DRIVE-BY TRUCKERS XXI. We have an unquestionable reference to South American rock in the 20th century. We didn’t get a chance to see the American Band (2016) live, as Donald Trump’s presidential campaign was at a time when serious and violent events were happening in the United States. What will this new record tell us after four years at the Trump White House? We are excited to see you live.

They come from Britain, THE ADICTS, one of the most significant (and oldest, of all) British punk bands. In addition to being the same formation since 1975, they have released a new album: And it was so. During this time Kubrick’s aesthetics of “La Naranja Mecánica” kept up with the magnetism of singer Keith “Monkey” Warren, proclaiming “Up Revolution!” If you see THE ADICTS at the festival, you are sure to experience a unique, fun and unforgettable experience.

We do not know what the SHOOTER JENNINGS team is up to in Nashville or in their parents touring vans: country legend Waylon Jennings and singer Jessi Colter. We have an admired band in the United States, and although they do not offer many concerts in Europe, what they offer at ARF will be unparalleled.

Powered by Gold & Gray, the BARONESS team comes to the festival, a giant of contemporary metal that has the power to convince critics and audiences. Dave Fridman himself has been responsible for directing the recording of the album (Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips).

ROBYN HITCHCOCK is a regular on our stage, but not in the electric format, nor in the lineup trained for this occasion, with the surname Los del Huevo Band. Talking about music is about talking about rock, post-punk, psychedelia … and talking about his lyrics, humor, surrealism and poetry.

ROBYN HITCHCOCK are coming from the UK. This year they have released their new album, Reinassance Man, and they will be coming to ARF to defend their work after their huge success in Madrid.

Although they have been working on the DeWolffeko boys for a decade and have published half a dozen works, they have not become so popular until last year. Maybe this Dutch band will remind you of bands like Led Zeppelin. Last year several concerts in the Spanish tour had to be canceled due to the health condition of the keyboardist. This time we will be able to see it live, after giving concerts in three venues throughout the state.

Next up is RAY COLLINS’ HOT CLUB devastating, crazy, awesome and awesome artist. This is how the chronicles of the concerts are defined. The Germans rise with no mercy and no repertoire. Will it be the most amazing big band in Europe?

New state-of-the-art confirmations include DERBY MOTORETA’S BURRITO KACHIMBA. Behind this increasingly popular name is a convoy that mixes Andalusian rock and psychedelia. They will be offering a unique live show, with them coming from the shameless Petroleum, a band led by punk comedian Igantius Farray.

WICKED WIZZARD will be coming to the Azkena Rock Festival from Mungia, after winning the Rock Prize in the Pop-Rock competition in Bilbao. With them we will have both winning bands in the Rock Party competition. 400 bands have signed up for this rock competition and the deadline for participation is December 20th (more info here).

To finish with the national section, we have a luxury appointment with TAHÚRES ZURDOS. Aurora Beltrán’s team has returned to the boards and will be with special guests at ARF.

These names will be added to previous confirmations of the Azkena Rock Festival: PATTI SMITH & BAND, SOCIAL DISTORTION, FU MANCHU, L7, REVEREND HORTON HEAT, THE STEEPWATER BAND and FAITHLESS.
