Iggy Pop, Yves Tumor, Bikini Kill and more for OFF Festival Poland 2022

Living legends and new hopes – IGGY POP, BIKINI KILL, YVES TUMOR & ITS BAND, THE ARMED, MDOU MOCTAR, ERIKA DE CASIER, SQUID, PI’ERRE BOURNE, YARD ACT and NATALIE BERGMAN will come to Katowice for OFF Festival 2022.

What is there to say about IGGY POP that everyone doesn’t already know? The father of punk rock, rock’n’roll incarnate, a stage animal – and at the same time a conscious and versatile artist. Organisers have already hosted him at the OFF Festival at the head of the legendary band The Stooges and whoever was there will never forget this concert.

This time IGGY POP is coming with his solo material, and he has a variety of choices, from the already iconic albums created in collaboration with David Bowie, to the last, very successful albums – “Post Pop Depression” (with Josh Homm) and “Free”. The title of the latter characterises IGGY POP with one apt word – he is a free spirit who does what he wants and always best!

“We are Bikini Kill and we demand a girl revolution right now!”

These are the words with which this American band introduced themselves to the world on their debut EP, produced by Ian MacKaye (Fugazi) and released in the fall of 1991. Feminist punk rock was a new and important voice in Maczyst’s rock culture. He was the spark that did ignite the larger and brighter flame. Kathleen Hanna and her team were followed by others. Riot grrrl may not have been a mass movement, it did not make it to the mainstream in its original, uncompromising form, but it inspired thousands of women from all over the world. He encouraged them to speak instead of waiting for someone to speak to them. To decide both on the form and content of artistic statements. The band itself did not last long, not even the end of the decade, but “Pussy Whipped” and “Reject All American” are albums without which it is impossible to talk seriously about independent American guitar music of the 90s.

The return of BIKINI KILL to the stage is therefore an event both social nature – because, unfortunately, their message has not become obsolete – but also artistic. We are glad that “Rebel Girl” will resound from the OFF Festival stage with full force!

Sean Bowie, known as YVES TUMOR, represent this trend in popular music, which on the one hand continues the Throbbing Gristle or postpunk experiments, but on the other hand does not renounce the melody and … simply beautiful . “Heaven to a Tortured Mind”, YVES TUMOR’s fourth album released in 2020, delighted critics. According to the reviewer, “Clash” is “a psychedelic soul of the 21st century”, others hear in this material the birth of a star in line with the greatest pop and rock icons of the 70s and 80s. We agree and we are waiting impatiently for the concert confirmation of this thesis.

More bands and artists will be announced in the coming months….
