girl in red, Myra and Signe Marie Rustad added to the Øya Festival 2022 line up!

Ticket sales show that Øya Thursday is very popular. It’s not surprising with NICK CAVE & THE BAD SEEDS, MICHAEL KIWANUKA, JARV IS… with Jarvis Cocker from Pulp, MUSTI and BEABADOOBEE already confirmed. Today we fill up with three very strong Norwegian artists, namely GIRL IN RED, MYRA and SIGNE MARIE RUSTAD.

Marie Ulven has in recent years had a violent breakthrough as a GIRL IN RED. In addition to an ever larger audience here at home, the interest is really growing internationally. The New York Times, NME and The Guardian are just some of the media that have praised the artist and songwriter. She was on the BBC’s prestigious Sound of 2021 list. In addition to several strong song releases, she has established herself as a wonderfully energetic live artist. In the spring of 2021 came the album If I Could Make It Go Quiet. The album reached second place on the Norwegian sales list, and was received with enthusiasm over large parts of the world.

Girl in Red turns down the smouldering sense of yearning that fizzled at the core of her earlier material and turns up the volume instead. You sense that many of these songs have been written with the distant dream of a jostling live show in mind.

NME

She was recently nominated for two awards at the MTV European Music Awards. Before the festival summer, she will go on a long US tour. Then she will warm up for Billie Eilish in London. We are really looking forward to experiencing girl in red on a big festival stage, and we know that there are many others who also do.

With her confident rapping and playful lyrics, MYRA has established herself as a strong name in Norwegian rap. She collaborated with Lars Vaular in 2017 on the single Ventet På Deg. Since then, she has played club concerts and major festivals all over Norway. For the text of Hjemløs I Egen By, she received the Edvard Prize in 2020. After an impressive series of single songs, the album Bokser & Ballerina came out a short time ago, and received very good reviews in, among others, Klassekampen and Bergens Tidende.

Myra, or Regina Tucker as she is actually called, is one of the fastest growing rappers in the Norwegian starry sky. And yes, there are many who have been waiting for one of her caliber, which combines the smart and natural with a powerful expression and an ability to break the wall between artist and audience.

Dagsavisen

While concert Norway has been dormant, MYRA has regularly released new strong music. This means that we have a lot of good things to look forward to in Tøyenparken, where she first impressed in 2018.

After capturing the attention of the ever-growing Norwegian americana audience with the debut album Golden Town (2012), SIGNE MARIE RUSTAD from Elverum seriously created waves with cross-genre Hearing Colors Seeing Noises (2016). In 2019 came the third album When Words Flew Freely, produced by Kenneth Ishak. It was announced by several for this year’s Norwegian album.

She received Spellemann as best lyricist in 2019. Live, SIGNE MARIE RUSTAD brings with her a fantastic band, which further enhances her songs and brings the dynamics of the records to life on stage. In 2021 she opened our concert series ØYA PRESENTER with the latest album in its entirety, and next summer she will play the songs for a large Øya audience.
