It is with great pleasure that organisers can finally present the first five names for Bergenfest 2023!

Britpop legends SUEDE, musical phenomenon TASH SULTANA, folk rockers THE LUMINEERS, Swedish newcomers GIRL SCOUT and Bergen’s new rock hope KRISTI BRUD make up the first release for next year’s Bergenfest.

It was with a bang that SUEDE broke through with their self-titled debut album in 1993. The record landed them the #1 spot on the UK’s official album chart and a pioneering position as one of the big four of 90s Britpop in the company of Oasis, Pulp and Blur. The releases and singles climbed to the top, not only in their home country, but also on the Norwegian charts.

The last time Bergen was lucky enough to be visited by SUEDE was in 1996 at the USF Shipyard. This time it will be under the open sky on Plenen’s grassy plain that we will hear immortal hits such as “Animal Nitrate”, “Trash”, “Filmstar”, “Electricity” and “Beautiful Ones” in addition to songs from their ninth album “Autofiction” (2022), which was described by Dagbladet’s reviewer as follows:

“It doesn’t take many seconds into “She Still Leads Me On” to realize who is the sender. The characteristic broken guitar chords, the pulsating bass and Brett Anderson’s sonorous signature voice fill the sound space in his usual confident and competent manner”.

Suede will play at Bergenfest 2023 on Saturday 17th June!
