Winter has been banished, and although you may have given up a thing or two for Lent, great music shouldn’t be one of them. The DAS FEST family has added three more gems to its line-up: FABER, RIVAL SONS, and QUERBEAT will be heading to Mount Klotz for southern Germany’s biggest family festival DAS FEST in Karlsruhe (19 to 21 July).
They will be performing on the ticketed main stage along with previously announced acts GENTLEMAN and KETTCAR (on Friday) as well as THREE FALL & MELANE and the BADISCHE STAATSKAPELLE at the Classical Morning (on Sunday).
FABER will kick off the 35th edition of DAS FEST. Born Julian Pollina, the musician and songwriter is of Italian descent, but grew up in Zurich. His father is the well- known songwriter Giuseppe “Pippo” Pollina. Around age 15, FABER started writing his own songs. He financed his first EP via crowdfunding, and his second followed a year later. His debut album Sei ein Faber im Wind, released in the summer of 2018, is about absolutely everything as well as nothing at all, because sometimes things can be just wonderfully irrelevant. We hear trombones and guitars and violins and a piano, and above all, that voice. Faber sings his songs with tremendous furore and full devotion.
I think what’s appealing about us is that we may be labelled singer- songwriters, but when you see us live, you notice that there’s much more raw power. Acoustic punk for girls – that’s how you could describe it

To conclude the first day of DAS FEST, QUERBEAT will really get the crowd going on the hill for the Night Club. The 13 “professional escalateurs”, as they call themselves, hail from Bonn, have up to 180 performances per Rheinland carnival season, and are now one of the greatest attractions during the “fifth season”. However, their album Fettes Q has proved that they’ve still got it throughout the rest of the year too. Released in 2016 and featuring the group’s own compositions, it’s made them popular beyond the Rhineland. In the summer of 2018, a festival season followed in which QUERBEAT went all out before launching their current album Randale und Hurra, finally turning the band into a household name throughout Germany and beyond. The brass musicians will also be bringing their new tunes to DAS FEST and spreading their boundless energy on Mount Klotz to transform the hill into a frenzy of dancing.
RIVAL SONS will be playing their only festival performance in Germany in 2019 as co- headliners on Mount Klotz at DAS FEST Sunday. These rockers from California are considered the modern blues-rock discovery of the last few years. By no means do they sound retro or backward. On the contrary, the quartet from Los Angeles really knows how to breathe new life into some of the most traditional musical styles in rock history. With a trance-like confidence, RIVAL SONS move between striking an intense pose before a grooving wall of sound and hauntingly intricate blues passages that bring out delicate goosebumps. Their fifth album Hollow Bones was released in June 2016 and became their biggest international success: In Europe alone, it climbed the charts in every European country and reached the top 10 in five countries.
After performing as special guests on Black Sabbath’s farewell tour, the band started working on their sixth album Feral Roots in Nashville, which was released on 25 January. As they themselves say, they’re “only in it for the music”. They want to play shows, delight audiences, and write as many captivating songs as possible. They proved that they could make this happen with their current European tour – all five concerts in Germany sold out completely.
