Duran Duran confirmed for Rock in Rio Lisboa 2020

The great successes of pop / rock are guaranteed in Parque da Bela Vista, on a day marked by the debut of iconic band DURAN DURAN, for the first time in Cidade do Rock, and A-HA, in a debut in Portugal. Present in all editions since 2004, XUTOS & PONTAPÉS join the lineup of the first day of the festival’s second weekend. The opening of the World Stage, on this day, is also a debut, for London band BUSH.

On the 27th of June, Palco Mundo is made up of unmissable hits like “Rio” and “Save a Prayer”. It is on this day that the wild boys Simon LeBon, Nick Rhodes, John Taylor, Andy Taylor and Roger Taylor, Princess Diana’s favorite band, DURAN DURAN, who have sold more than 100 million records will play for the first time at Parque da Bela Vista.

For the first time in Portugal, A-HA are part of the lineup for the third day of the festival. “Take on Me” and “Hunting High and Low” are some of the successes that continue to mark generations and that can be heard in the City of Rock on the 27th. After performing twice in Rock in Rio Brasil (1991 and 2015), the Nordic trio performs for the first time in Lisbon. Considered one of the greatest phenomena of pop music of all time, their timeless themes have led to more than 10 million copies sold worldwide with the debut album and arenas sold out on various continents.

It is also on this day that the XUTOS & PONTAPÉS take to the World Stage. The last concert of the Portuguese band in Cidade do Rock was marked by a special moment of celebration to Zé Pedro, the former guitarist of the band. The performance was attended by the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, and the Prime Minister, António Costa, and many other figures from the national scene together on the same stage. Since then, the band has released a new album, Duro (2019), which also served as a motto for the celebration of its 40 years of career, an album that featured themes recorded by Zé Pedro and participations by Jorge Palma, Carlão and Capicua.

And on a day marked by many premieres, the opening of the World Stage has been charged to British BUSH. The grunge band created in London is the author of hits such as “Machinehead”, “Glycerine” and also acclaimed albums like The Sea of Memories (2011), Man on the Run (2014) and Black and White Rainbows (2017) – having sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.
