Bon Iver to headline Norway’s Oya Festival 2020

on

Following its landmark 20th anniversary last year, Norway’s Øya Festival will be returning to Oslo once again from 11th – 15th August 2020. Known for its uncompromisingly credible 50/50 M/F line up and regularly voted the world’s greenest event, Øya paves the way for forward-thinking next-generation festivals.

Today, Øya announces its first headliner for 2020: BON IVER. The nom de band of Justin Vernon, BON IVER became the poster child for the late-2000s indie folk sound following the 2007 release of the heart wrenching confessional album For Emma, Forever Ago. In the twelve years that have ensued, Vernon has amassed multiple Grammy Awards, millions of fans – including collaborator Kanye West – hosted two festivals and much more.  Following the release of his majestic fourth album, i,i this summer, BON IVER will return to Oslo for what will be one of few European festival performances next year.

Also confirmed are iconic feminist punk band BIKINI KILL. Hailing from Olympia, WA and Washington DC, BIKINI KILL formed in 1990 and broke up in 1997, reuniting this year. Widely credited with instigating the Riot Grrrl movement in the early 90s through their political lyrics, zines and confrontational live show, BIKINI KILL used touring as a way to create an underground network of women and a powerful forum for female voices to be heard. Their reunion tour, which saw them play shows in New York, LA and London earlier this year, proved that their demand of ‘revolution girl style, now’ is very much alive in the present.
