In 2023, the MEO Kalorama festival returns to Parque da Bela Vista on 31st August to 2nd September and announces today its first major confirmations: ARCADE FIRE, FLORENCE + THE MACHINE, THE BLAZE, FOALS, METRONOMY, AMYL & THE SNIFFERS and the Portuguese acts CAPITÃO FAUSTO, DINO D’SANTIAGO and RITA VIAN.
ARCADE FIRE will arrive at MEO Kalorama after an apotheosis in Lisbon with the “WE” tour last September, in two nights which sold out in a few days and came to strengthen the unconditional mutual love which the country and the band still feel, almost 20 years after their mythical live debut. FLORENCE + THE MACHINE, for her part, adds a new chapter to the romance she has maintained with Portugal for over a decade, this time in the idyllic setting of the Parque da Bela Vista, which seems to have been designed to welcome her.
With performances in Portugal since 2018, in which they have been adding fans, set after set, the cinematic THE BLAZE will perform for the largest audience ever in the country, confirming their entrance into the restricted court of electronic music, in which they distinguish themselves live by the synchronised creation of music and visual content.
Intense and faithful is also FOALS‘ and METRONOMY‘S relationship with Portugal, which they often visit and whose euphoric reception by the audience always seems to be a family celebration: the first ones bring guitars and the second synthesizers, but in the end both unravel a repertoire of perfect pop songs, which at MEO Kalorama should find a tuned choir ready to give in to the great party which is always expected from the concerts of both bands. Australians AMYL & THE SNIFFERS land on MEO Kalorama to unload bursts of punk energy, distilled by a vocalist who lifts the audience with the strength of a tornado.
The festival also reveals its first national artists: after this year having celebrated the 10 years of their debut album “Gazela”, CAPITÃO FAUSTO will cross 2023 focused on recording their fifth original album, accepting MEO Kalorama’s invitation for one of their few live performances next year. DINO D’SANTIAGO will make his live debut at MEO Kalorama in a year which is expected to be a year of consecration, with increasingly large audiences to sing, dance and commune to the unique sound of his Batuku mixed with hip hop and electronica, of which the latest album “Badiu” is emblematic; finally, RITA VIAN integrates the current of artists who present a new expression of tradition from urban music, particularly electronica, and brings the promise of new music in her first performance at the festival.
