On August 13th, THE STROKES arrive in Oslo for the first time in over 18 years. This will be their first visit to Norway since 2011, and the occasion is that they will close the Thursday night during Øya Festival.
In 2020, their much-awaited album will be number 6, the first since 2013. This summer they will headline giant festivals on several continents. Øya Festival is like an intimate concert compared to several of the other venues THE STROKES will be visiting this year. Don’t let this rare opportunity to see THE STROKES in Norway get away from you.
About 20 years ago, five guys breathed new life into the New York rock. With hints to, among others, Velvet Underground and Richard Hell, THE STROKES made songs that were catchy, energetic and unpolished. After gaining a reputation as a fantastic live band in their hometown, they were awarded a record deal with Rough Trade and RCA. Interest was soon as great in Europe, and the EP Modern Age was a good sign of the success to come.
The classic ‘Is This It’ is a record that opens the door to a new wave of fresh rock bands over the coming years. It reached second place on the album list in both the UK and Norway. Rolling Stone Magazine has thought it is among the top ten debut albums in rock history.
It was, from start to finish, a masterclass in the effortless cool that made us love them in the first place.NME
The subsequent albums Room on Fire (2003), First Impressions of Earth (2006), Angles (2011) and Comedown Machine (2013) have all sold well and the band has continued to be a big draw at the world’s biggest festivals. After a break, THE STROKES returned to the scene last year. They have told themselves that their sixth album is coming in 2020. We and many others are waiting for excitement.
