NIGHTWISH is a symphonic metal band fronted by singer Floor Jansen. They are one of Finland’s most successful bands and have sold more than nine million albums. In total, they have more than 60 gold and platinum awards. Five of their albums have reached #1 on the album charts and 13 of their singles have also reached high chart positions.
It all started in 1996 when Tuomas Holopainen had an idea for a solo project that would play atmospheric music. The music would include acoustic guitar, flutes, strings, piano and female vocals. Soon the guitarist Erno “Empu” Vuorinen and the singer Tarja Turunen joined the project and this was the start of NIGHTWISH.
The debut album was called “Angels Fall First” and came out in 1997. But the breakthrough did not come immediately, but it was after the releases “Oceanborn” (1998), “Wishmaster” (2000) and “Century Child” (2002). The album “Once” (2004) sold over a million copies on its own and made Nightwish a big name in the US. The record set the band’s trademark and it was classified as a masterpiece.
NIGHTWISH released their latest studio album “Human :II: Nature” in 2020 and today they consist of Floor Jansen (vocals), Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards), Empuu Vuorinen (guitar), Troy Donockley (vocals, guitar, bagpipes etc.), Kai Hahto ( drums) and Jukka Koskinen (bass).
